Reopened after undergoing a multi-million dollar renovation in early 2004, the Hotel Carlton's style can best be described as "international vintage". A private collection of photographs from the San Francisco-based American Himalayan Foundation compliments its decor. The Hotel Carlton has also received 'The Best Can Do Attitude' award from their parent company.
The intimate lobby is reminiscent of a private estate with its one-of-a-kind treasures and multicultural pieces including tribal art, Oriental rugs and imported furnishings. The carved moldings and wrought-iron, pinecone-topped banisters were kept and restored from the hotel’s original 1928 ornamentation.
The 163 guest rooms and suites are appointed with a vibrant layering of vintage style and contemporary comforts. A glowing color scheme of pale blue, cream, deep red, saffron and persimmon lends the rooms a warm and inviting ambience. Each is appointed with charming overseas accents such as imported hand-painted Moroccan tables, beaded table lamps, ceiling fans and wood blinds. Painted headboards are adorned with a striking gold medallion reminiscent of the hotel’s logo.
The Hotel Carlton is freestanding, therefore many guestrooms offer the traveler a full and breathtaking view of downtown San Francisco—and beyond.
