The hotel features a lively yet sophisticated lobby with sculpted furnishings and deep, neutral colors with accents of acid green, tangerine and ice blue. A two-story waterfall cascades behind the registration desk.
Each of the 105 guest rooms’ décor is inspired by one of the four elements. Custom-made furniture such as wave-shaped headboards and whimsical knickknacks reinforce each theme. Guests can forego the traditional wake-up call and program bedside radios to be awakened by the sounds of gentle rain or crashing waves.
Two of the Hotel Metropolis’ more unusual features include a communal "holistic well-being room," where guests will find tatami mats, a tiny rock garden and soothing music. The Metropolis features an Urban Explorer Kid's Suite with bunk beds, crayons, dolls, bath toys, chalkboard and a selection of children’s books. Parents will enjoy their own private, adjoining room.
The hotel is located just two blocks from the heart of Union Square but travelers should be aware that the hotel is located on the edge of a less-desirable neighborhood.
